What Are Spider Veins?
Dilated veins and capillaries on the face, legs or other parts of the body affect both men and women. Often referred to as spider veins for their fine, web-like appearance, the medical term for them is telangiectasia.
Although spider veins are not normally a cause for concern, they can be a cosmetic nuisance. Their cause depends on their location. In general, vessels become more visible with age as the skin becomes thinner. On the face, they are often related to rosacea. On the legs, they can sometimes be associated with varicose veins. Sun exposure, hormones, pregnancy or family history can also be contributing factors.
Spider Veins Treatments
If you suffer from unwanted veins there are a number of treatments that can help:
- Facial vein treatment can consist of various lasers like IPL, laser genesis or vascular lasers.
- Leg vein treatment can either be sclerotherapy or lasers as well.
- In those prone to them, spider veins have a tendency to recur and regular maintenance treatments along with good sun protection is recommended.
