What Is Volume Loss?
Facial volume loss is one of the earliest signs of aging. It can begin in our 30s, when our faces start to lose that youthful fullness: eyes begin to look sunken and tired and the skin beneath them form bags which don’t disappear with a good night’s sleep. Lines then deepen between the mouth and nose, lips thin and cheeks become hollow.
All these changes are the result of a loss of support beneath the skin including elastic tissue, collagen and — surprisingly — fat. Facial volume loss is a natural part of the aging process, but can be accelerated by sun exposure, stress and lifestyle habits, such as smoking.
Volume Loss Treatments
Until recently, major surgery was the only effective way to treat volume loss. Today, there are a number of safe and effective non surgical facial treatments available:
- Dermal fillers made from hyaluronic acid, such as Juvederm®, Restylane® or Belotero® can be used on their own or combined with neuromodulators, such as Botox® or Nuceiva™, and provide significant and immediate improvement.
- Regular maintenance with laser treatments like Halo, microneedling RF or laser genesis can help to maintain achieved results by stimulating collagen production.
Dr. Muhn and Dr. Rosen are experts in volume restoration and would happily customize a treatment plan suited to the specific volume loss concerns. Both physicians and our team of highly skilled cosmetic injectors are expertly trained in addressing volume loss concerns.
